View the chart stored for this reader

FreshWater 5-Way · free chlorine or total bromine, alkalinity, pH and total hardness. This is the chart you supplied, with 150 ppm on the hardness row. The sanitizer chart switches with your water-care system. Confirm calcium hardness with a separate calcium test before adding calcium.

Photo estimates have not been validated against water samples. If readings look unexpected, retest or ask American Spas to check your water before treatment.

Use another product’s label dose

Use your exact product’s bottle directions to scale one initial dose to your spa’s volume. This works with volume-based directions for granular or liquid spa products. It does not decide which chemical is needed or calculate a final pH correction. Tablets, floaters, salt systems and treatments without a volume-based label dose need their own instructions.

Use the current label’s dose for your intended treatment. Scale only when the label allows it and your spa manual permits the product.

About readings, dosing & privacy

For residential spas only. FROG @ease, biguanide, unknown systems, pools and commercial spas need different guidance. This strip-only reader uses the selected FreshWater label version. Reference colors are adjusted against unprinted label areas; photo lighting is estimated from blank plastic between pads when available. It is experimental and has not been validated as a measuring instrument. Background color is not a requirement. Camera processing and lighting can still affect color estimates. Photographs cannot certify safe water or confirm correct test timing. This reader supports only the FreshWater 5-Way chart shown here.

Hardness on these strips is total hardness, not a calcium-only result. Confirm calcium with a drop test and your spa’s manual before adding calcium. FreshWater 5-Way strips do not measure salt. Never add salt based on this test.

Strip-only color comparison, manual entry and dose calculations run entirely in your browser. Photos and readings are not uploaded or saved. The store catalog loads separately to show optional products.

Doses shown are initial, label-specific adjustments, not a guaranteed total correction. Reviewed manufacturer directions: Spa Up, 1 ounce per 500 gallons for a 10 ppm alkalinity step or pH 6.8–7.2; retest after 3 hours. Spa Down, ¼ ounce per 500 gallons; circulate for 30 minutes and retest. Your current bottle and spa manual take precedence.

Guidance ranges are starting points; equipment-specific requirements vary. Conventional alkalinity: 80–120 ppm; FreshWater: 40–120 ppm. pH: 7.2–7.8; free chlorine: 3–5 ppm; bromine: 4–8 ppm. No result is a declaration that water is safe for bathing.
